Trade exhibitions will provide a key catalyst in rapidly developing Abuja's economy, delegates at the Abuja International Trade Fair heard this week.Organised by the Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, the sixth annual fair considered the role of trade as an engine of growth. In an opening speech to delegates, secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, said that the Nigerian government would continue to support businesses and investors through its policies, Leadership.ng reported. The news provider reported him as saying that the private sector must, however, improve the quality of investment and take more risk in higher value activities in order to make the country more competitive on a global scale.Senator Anyim also said that the government would support smaller businesses in order to create jobs.Delegates also heard from the national president of the Association, Herbert Ademola Ajayi, who claimed that evidence from other countries shows that without the necessary economic reforms and incentives that would encourage domestic and foreign investment, Nigeria could not experience any real growth.
