Abu Dhabi Film Festival sees rise in sponsorship

The Abu Dhabi Film Festival has witnessed a rise in sponsorship this year, it has been confirmed. This is, at least in part, because organisers are increasingly turning to the private sector for funding of the event, The National has reported.According to organisers, the film festival now boasts 17 official sponsors, a rise from 12 in 2010.Among the list of partners are high-profile firms such as Etihad Airways and BlackBerry.Commenting on the boost in sponsorship, Peter Scarlet, the executive director of the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, told the news provider: "Until now, artistic activity has been exclusively underwritten by the government here. And that's great, and we're very grateful for that support."But it's good also for the private sector to be involved."He observed that the increasing interest from the private sector is a reflection of the event's growing popularity and status, adding that he hopes to see the sponsorship base expand once again next year.
