Abu Dhabi experiences surge in visitor numbers, ADTA reveals

Abu Dhabi is experiencing a surge in tourist numbers, according to figures released this week.In news that could interest Middle East property investors, the city has had 1,347,782 guests so far this year, a figure the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) would like to reach two million by the year's end.Furthermore, more than four million guest nights have been had in the city so far in 2011 - a five per cent increase on the same time last year, topnews.ae reports.Lawrence Franklin, strategy and policy director for ADTA, told the news provider that people are looking to stay in the city for longer."The overall increase in guest nights is strongly influenced by the number of longer staying guests in hotel apartments and also impacted the average-length-of-stay, which was up 20 per cent," he explained.STR Global's forecast, published earlier this month, revealed that should all current developments be completed, there could be a 90 per cent rise in available hotel rooms in the city.
