Kenya Airways announces plans to double its fleet

Kenya Airways has announced plans to double its fleet in the next five years. The move forms part of a broader plan aimed at extending its network to every African nation, chief executive Titus Naikuni told a news conference.Through its Nairobi hub, Kenya Airways aims to connect all African travellers to the rest of the world."Our strategy has been to grow in Africa, try and get in all capital cities in Africa and also increase frequencies ... We are looking at doubling our fleet in the next five years," Mr Naikuni remarked. One of the largest carriers in Africa, Kenya Airways operates a fleet of around 27 planes, made up of Boeing aircraft and seven Embraer jets.Last month, the Kenyan and Angolan governments signed the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), thereby paving way for Kenya Airways to expand its operations in the country. As a result, Kenya Airways will soon operate as many as three weekly frequencies to Angola.
