Kenya Airways acquires aircraft from Brazilian manufacturer

Kenya Airways has agreed to buy ten aircraft from Embraer SA and signed an option to acquire another 16, it has been confirmed.Titus Naikuni, the chief executive officer of the Kenyan company, told reporters in Nairobi that the Embraer 190 aircraft will be delivered between July 2012 and 2013."These aircraft will help us in opening new routes and increasing frequencies on existing routes," Mr Naikuni remarked.At present, Kenya Airways operates ten planes from the Brazilian manufacturer.Mathieu Duquesnoy, vice-president for Middle East and Africa at Embraer, revealed that the manufacturer hopes to double the number of its planes operated by African carriers over the next two to three years.Earlier this week, Kenya Airways announced plans to double its fleet in the next five years.Through its Nairobi hub, Kenya Airways said that it aims to connect all African travellers to the rest of the world.
