HRH initiative gets Dubai schoolchildren active

The HRH initiative to get schoolchildren in Dubai more active and interested sports has received a welcome boost, with the Dubai Duty Free entering a two-year sponsorship deal with the Dubai Educational Zone.It will help to promote sport at a grass roots level under the initiative for the Development of Health, Physical Education and School Sports Programme, Gulf News reports.Students will be given a new health and physical education curriculum, while teacher training programmes and after-school sports activities will also be funded.Schools sports facilities will also be improved under the scheme."We believe that this is an invaluable programme that educates young people on the benefits of sport and generally encourages them to live an active lifestyle," Colm McLoughlin, executive vice-chairman of Dubai Duty Free, told the news provider.The news comes as the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre hosts a three-day international indoor football competition, the largest-ever indoor sports event to ever be held in the UAE.
