Dubai Airports reports rapid growth in numbers

As more tourists flock to the UAE, Dubai Airports has reported rapid growth this summer.According to the company, around 4.72 million people flew to and from the emirate last month (July), an increase of 9.3 per cent on the same period in 2010.This is helping Dubai edge closer to becoming the third busiest airport in the world, overtaking Hong Kong."Dubai International is currently ranked as the fourth busiest airport worldwide for international passenger traffic. However, we are hot on the heels of Hong Kong International, and aspire to take over the number three spot by the end of the year," said Paul Griffiths, the chief executive of Dubai Airports, which includes Dubai International and Dubai World Central.Since the start of 2011, a total of 29.3 million people boarded flights to and from Dubai, which represents a nine per cent increase compared to the same period last year, the Khaleej Times reports.Mr Griffiths commented that owing to Dubai's "burgeoning attractiveness" for both business and tourism, the growth is "sure to fuel future expansion".
