Could Dubai tourists get a 'World Tour' of man-made island?

Real estate developer Nakheel has announced plans to run tours to Dubai's World Islands. It wants to open up the man-made island to the public and is in talks with tour agencies to operate trips from nearby Palm Jumeirah to the luxury World Islands. However, given the exclusivity of the World Islands, the tours could be reserved for richer Dubai tourists."A lot of people come to Dubai for short stays and we have been asked for some short term tourism packages … we are in the process of doing that," Emirates 24/7 quotes chairman of Nakheel Ali Rashid Lootah as saying.Currently, the islands are only being sold by invitation to some of the wealthiest people in the world. The company says it has sold 70 per cent of the 300 islands, which are priced at between $20 million and $50 million each.Offering public tours could boost tourism in Dubai, which is experiencing a boom. Figures from STR Global show that hotels in Dubai have witnessed a 23 per cent occupancy growth in July compared to the same month last year.
