Kenya handed hygiene award

Kenya's efforts to improve hygiene have been recognised at the Third African Conference on Hygiene and Sanitation in Kigali, Rwanda.The country has, in fact, been declared one of the top three handwashing champions in Africa, cbc.co.ke has reported.This comes shortly after the country win the Guinness World Record for the most number of people washing their hands at the same time at a single location on October 15th 2010.Dr Kepha Ombacho, chief public health officer at the ministry of public health and sanitation, explained that the Millennium Development Goals on sanitation and hygiene can only be met through public and private sector partnerships."The Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation will continue to support both public and private partners who want to raise the profile of handwashing with soap in Kenya."We will continue to provide an enabling environment for all players to implement their programmes," said Dr Ombacho.
