US ambassador Michael Corbin and deputy chief of mission, L Victor Hurtado have arrived in Abu Dhabi to take up their new appointments in the capital. Ambassador-designate Corbin said that he was "delighted" to be in Abu Dhabi and expressed his pleasure at arriving in time for the start of Ramadan. "I look forward to spending this special time of year acquainting myself with the heritage and culture of the Emirates and to getting to see as much as possible of this beautiful country," he added. A long-serving diplomat, ambassador Corbin is leaving his post as the deputy assistant secretary of state in the US State Department's Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. He was nominated as the US ambassador to the United Arab Emirates by president Barack Obama on May 5, 2011 and will remain ambassador-designate until he presents his credentials to President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
