RAK to release brand image to target tourists
The Hotel and Tourism Development Authority of Ras al Khaimah is to launch a new brand for the emirate in the coming weeks to attract more tourists.It will target the UK, Germany and Russia, The National reported.Officials have already stated that they hope tourism will account for 20 per cent of GDP by 2016 and act as a lower-cost alternative to Dubai.According to the news provider, RAK will focus on the cruise ship industry, which is expected to generate $29.34 billion worldwide.What's more, more than 100 cruise ships journey through the Gulf every year, providing lucrative opportunities for RAK.Victor Louis, the chief operating officer of the Hotel and Tourism Development Authority, told the National that the cruise industry could boost hotel room occupancy to 10,000 in the next five years.They will also focus on developing resorts in RAK. Mr Louis said: "We will not have cheap resorts, but the prices here are at least 40 per cent less than in Dubai. We want to brand RAK as the up-and-coming emirate."
