Private equity funds eye Kenya for investment

A number of private equity funds are keen to invest in Kenya, it has been suggested.More than 20 per cent want to invest in Kenya, according to a recent report from Business Daily Africa.The news source also explained that around 15 to 20 per cent are looking to invest in Uganda and Tanzania.Chief executive of Olympia Capital told Business Daily Africa: "A lot of private equity firms are domiciled and run from Kenya."Meanwhile, Doug Lacey, a partner at LeapFrog Investments, said: "Kenya is a well-developed African market [and] has had a relatively stable currency over the past five years."He added that the mobile money industry has increased accessibility to the bottom of the pyramid customers in Kenya.Furthermore, Nairobi is a sensible, logistical choice for doing business in East Africa.As Alexander Van Schie from Deloitte explained, it is considered to be the financial and trade centre of East Africa.
