Jumeirah Group to open nine new hotels

The Jumeirah Group is set to open nine new hotels this year, almost doubling its current portfolio, it has been claimed.Gerald Lawless, executive chairman of the firm, said that the group saw a strong recovery in 2010 in terms of occupancy and room rates and that the chain is all set to expand on this success."We will open nine hotels in total, if everything goes well, in 2011, which will be very interesting because it will take us from about ten hotels to 19 hotels," Mr Lawless told HotelNewsNow.com in an interview. The group will open the hotels across the UAE, including new builds in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.Resurgence in tourism to the region is said to be one of the primary drivers behind the expansion plans, with the Jumeirah executive stating that the increasing number of visitors is an "encouraging" sign."It bodes well for the future that we will be able to get back to levels that we have had in 2007 and early in 2008," Mr Lawless added.
