Hilton looks to open hotel in Mombasa

Hotel giant Hilton has announced that it will open two hotels in Mombasa's North Coast.Tourism minister Najib Balala told The Standard: "I have met with representatives of the hotel chain including architects who are putting up the architectural designs as they conduct a survey plan before resuming construction."The news provider reported that the tourism industry in Kenya's second-largest city has bemoaned the lack of international hotel chains along the coast, while Nairobi has the majority of tourism investment from abroad. However, the move could see greater tourism numbers in Mombasa.Mr Balala did not reveal when construction on the Hilton sights will begin.Recent figures from the Kenya Tourist Board show that there has been a substantial increase in tourism to Kenya, with January 2011 seeing a 40 per cent rise on the same month in 2010.This is thought to be down to new resorts opening in the country and recovery from the flawed elections in 2008.
