Dubai skyscraper wins prestigious award

Index, the 80-storey building in Dubai, has been given the 2011 Best Tall Building Award for the Middle East and Africa region by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).It has been confirmed that the announcment will be officially made at the CTBUH tenth Annual Awards Dinner in Chicago, Illinois.Developed by Union Properties, the impressive structure now finds itself in contention for the 2011 Best Tall Building Worldwide Award."This is a major recognition from industry peers from around the world, and a shining testament to the outstanding design and quality of this most unique project," Khalid Bin Kalban, chairman of Union Properties, commented.Khalid Al Jarwan, general manager, Union Properties, explained: "Index is the first of a new era of 'intelligent buildings' that are destined to be the skyscrapers of the future."Last year, the prize for Best Tall Building Worldwide was awarded to the Burj Khalifa, perhaps the most iconic building on the emirate's skyline.
