ADU to allocate financial aid to disadvantaged students

The Abu Dhabi University (ADU) has confirmed that it is to allocate more than Dh11.4 million for financial aid, scholarships and family tuition discounts during the 2010/11 academic year.More than 500 students with limited financial resources will benefit from the university's decision, Gulf News has reported.Dr Nabil Ibrahim, ADU's chancellor, explained that five different scholarships and a family tuition discount are available to students, though this depends on their circumstances and the criteria they meet. The Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Scholarship is granted to the top ten secondary school graduates across the UAE. It is applicable for a maximum of four years per student, or upon graduation, whichever is sooner.Furthermore, ADU confirmed that those students with a secondary school average of 70 per cent or more can receive up to 50 per cent discount on their tuition.ADU opened its doors to students in September 2003 and is now considered to be one of the best institutions in the region.
