Abu Dhabi holiday market enjoys 'bumper start' to 2011

The start of 2011 has seen Abu Dhabi enjoy an increase in visitor numbers, it has been reported.According to the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, more than two million holidaymakers have visited the emirate during the first six months of the year.Much of this success is down to increased investment into the emirate's tourism infrastructure, the authority has claimed.Lawrence Franklin, strategy and policy director for the organisation, highlighted the forthcoming Summer in Abu Dhabi festival as a major draw, saying it "will provide an incentive to visitors, offering a range of headline entertainment, activities, discounts and value-add deals across attractions and hotels"."We have reaped the benefits of various stakeholder initiatives, including the Yas Show Weekends and the Etihad Airways-led 'Essential Abu Dhabi' incentive campaign, which continues to gain momentum," he added. It comes as recent figures revealed an increase in Abu Dhabi hotel stays with 694,181 guests staying in the emirate during the first four months of 2011.
