World Cup 'to boost tourism'

The UAE is likely to see a surge in tourism as a result of the Fifa World Cup in Qatar.Due to be held in 2022, the event is also predicted to help push innovation in new technology. However, Dr Sean Ennis, a specialist in sports marketing at the University of Strathclyde Business School, suggested that Dubai stands to gain more than Qatar."Qatar is not well-known in the west while Dubai and Abu Dhabi have marketed themselves aggressively ... so I'm not convinced they will stay in Qatar," he said."[Instead] they will come to Dubai and fly in for the games and fly back."Speaking at the business school's Dubai campus to mark the 40th anniversary of the Marketing Department, Dr Ennis added that people are likely to make hotel arrangements in Dubai or Abu Dhabi and noted that cruise lines could start to offer special packages. The Jumeriah Group hospitality firm is already preparing to establish a hotel in Doha by the time the event takes place, Gulf News reported.
