Sweden allocates money for Kenyan investment

Sweden has allocated 1.47 billion Kenyan shillings to invest in Kenya's development.The money is to be used to create a platform for the civil society in Kenya to cooperate on advocacy for sustainable growth.Annika Jayawardena, head of section for Bilateral Development Cooperation with Kenya at Sweden's embassy in Nairobi, explained that the support is designed to create sustainable development.She added: "The support focuses on local organisations in the towns and at the rural areas working with advocacy for sustainable growth."The programme will be administered and implemented by the umbrella organisation Pact Kenya, the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation reported.Meanwhile, Ann Dismorr, ambassador of Sweden to Kenya, explained that the funding will take advantage of Kenya's new constitution by allowing local civil society and interest groups to "widen and deepen the activities within the natural resource sector".Last year, Kenya's economy grew by 5.6 per cent.
