FDI expected to climb across UAE
More than 279 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects took place in the UAE over the past year, worth nearly $10 billion. And that figure could be set to spiral upwards once again, a senior Abu Dhabi official has claimed, Emirates 24-7 reports.Mohammed Omar Abdullah, undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, said that the recent unrest in the Middle East means that a growing number of investors see the emirates as a safe haven."Amid the unrest and political chaos in MENA, the UAE provides a unique model of political and economic stability in the region; which enhances its chances for attracting more investments during the next stage," he explained.Mr Abdullah added that despite the preliminary opinions about the prospects of investment in the region, the future is bright, with a number of investment opportunities likely to present themselves.Discussing the Abu Dhabi economy, he said that the recent financial crisis had been a real test of the emirate's ability to cope with all international and regional economic variables.
