Emirates Group hopes to become 'world's largest airline'

Following the recent publication of its financial results, The Emirates Group has set its sights on an even bigger goal.In amongst the group's annual report, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of the firm, outlined plans to become the world's largest airline, Emirates 24-7 reported."With 182,757 million available seat kilometres, we are now the world's largest airline by scheduled international passenger kilometres flown," he said.The claim comes on the back of the Emirates Group marking its 23rd consecutive year of profit with a record performance of Dh5.9bn net profit.Emirates airline's revenues grew by 25 per cent from last year to reach Dh54.4 billion.It came amid rising political instability across parts of the world in the second half of the year, with Emirates forced to swiftly adjust flight schedules, redeploy aircraft and optimise revenue, the airline said.The airline has also expanded, with 32 new Airbus A380s and 30 new Boeing 777-300ERs, bringing its fleet to 148 aircraft.
