Dubai RTA to spend 20 billion dirhams on new projects

The Road Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is planning to invest around 20 billion dirhams (£3.35 billion) over the coming four years in improving infrastructure.Abdul Mohsin Ibrahmi Younes, chief executive for strategy and corporate governance at the RTA, said that public-private partnerships will be created to fund projects, Reuters reported.Mr Younes added that despite the increase in financial outlay, the RTA was not looking to increase its toll charges. He told the news provider that higher charges would not be an option to raise money for any future developments, adding if toll fares were raised, it would be to address changes related to the flow of traffic in the emirate."Salik is not done to fund future projects but to control the traffic conditions," he said.Meanwhile, Mr Younes said the RTA expected its new tram system for Dubai to be completed by 2014 and the green line of Dubai's metro to be completed by September.
