Abu Dhabi hotel performance 'on upward trend'

The Abu Dhabi hotel industry has maintained "upward momentum" during the first quarter of the year.According to Lawrence Franklin, strategy and policy director at the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, the sector enjoyed a ten per cent increase in guests in the first three months of the year.He added that there was also a 25 per cent increase in guest nights, which rose to 1.6 million.The comments come ahead of the Volvo Ocean Race. Teams are expected to be coming into Abu Dhabi for the occasion on January 1st next year and will depart on January 14th.Mr Franklin added that the emirate has a number of highlights for visitors to enjoy, including the world's largest indoor theme park, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Formula 1 Grand Prix and a number of championship-level gold courses.He added that Abu Dhabi is planning "a stop over like no other" for the Volvo Ocean Race, which will include in-port racing, a race village for spectators and headline concerts.
