US trip 'fruitful' for Kenya investment

A trip by the Kenyan prime minister Raila Odinga to the US has been described as fruitful.Speaking to the Nation, Mr Odinga said that the trade ties under discussion with the governor of Florida were encouraging. The president is conducting a week-long visit to the US in order to encourage investment in Kenya.Interest is starting to pick up as it is becoming clear that Kenya is recovering from the violence of early 2008, Stephen Hayes, director of the Washington-based Corporate Council on Africa, told the paper. However, White House officials have remained non-committal about the country's views on investment in Kenya.President Barack Obama visited the African country earlier this year but Mr Odinga said politicians are still looking into the situation. So far White House discussions have focused primarily on the development of aid for Kenya to help the country deal with the influx of Somali refugees.Stabilisation of neighbouring Sudan and Somali was also on the agenda.
