UAE heading up eco-friendly city programnme

The UAE has been chosen to lead a network of eco-friendly cities set up to tap into each other's experiences in their long-term urban sustainability.To begin with, the emirate will be joined by Sweden, Denmark and China, with other countries free to join at a later date.Sultan Al Jaber, special envoy for energy and climate change, said that the UAE has placed renewable energy and climate change high on its agenda.He noted that this has been demonstrated through a variety of initiatives including the setting up of the Masdar initiative, the Abu Dhabi green building code, the World Future Energy Summit and the Zayed Future Energy prize."The UAE, Sweden, Denmark and China will shortly launch a robust, delivery-oriented network of sustainable cities to tap into the experience of each other," Dr Al Jaber said.It follows news that energy ministers and high-level representatives from more than 20 governments renewed their support for 11 international clean energy initiatives.
