People living in UAE 'among the most satisfied in the world'

Residents of the United Arab Emirates are among the most satisfied people in the world, according to a new wellbeing survey.A poll by Gallup found that people living in the UAE are the 16th most satisfied nation, with 55 per cent of the population described as "thriving" in 2010.Denmark came top of the list, with 72 per cent of residents thriving, but the UAE beat the UK, Qatar and a number of African and European nations including Portugal.Gallup noted that the list is dominated by more developed and wealthier nations, strengthening the link between wellbeing and GDP.The figures found that just one in seven people were thriving in Tunisia and Egypt, reflecting the civil unrest in these nations. It found that 44 per cent of people living in the UAE say they are struggling.Within the Middle East region, Qatar was ranked 18th in the world for thriving, while Kuwait was ranked 22nd, with 46 per cent of residents satisfied with their wellbeing.
