Dubai looks to cut energy consumption by 30%

Dubai has announced plans to reduce its energy consumption by 30 per cent over the next 20 years, a senior state official has revealed.Launching the scheme, which aims to see the emirate become the lowest carbon economy in the region, the secretary general of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy said the strategy would see the eco-impact of energy resources used lowered."The UAE, being the highest energy exporter per capita, has a vision to become the lowest-carbon economy in the region by creating an environmentally-friendly and sustainable energy policy," Nejib Zaafrani said.According to a policy report, the UAE is expected to experience an annual growth in its energy demand of ten per cent over the next five years.As such, the need to find new, cleaner technologies to address the growing demand is greater than ever before.Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that leading energy firm RUBENIUS is poised to sue the emirate as the base for its global operations.
