Minister of economy Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri has called for greater investment in aircraft, airports and aviation facilities in the UAE, it has been reported.
Speaking to the directors general of Civil Aviation in the Middle East, he said that funds need to be pumped into the aviation industry to cope with growing passenger traffic, the Khaleej Times stated.
Indeed, figures from the International Civil Aviation Organization show that passenger numbers could increase 4.6 per cent every year in the UAE until 2030 to up to five billion travellers.
Al Mansouri said at the meeting: "This … requires close cooperation with other countries and other stakeholders in the industry, including passengers, to maintain an integrated global air transport system and facilitate its growth in order to meet the unprecedented growth in demand for air transport."
In Abu Dhabi alone, figures the Abu Dhabi Airports Company show that Abu Dhabi International Airport saw eight per cent growth in passenger numbers in February compared to the same month last year.
