The UAE's free zone areas will play a key role in establishing a knowledge-based economy in the country, it has been claimed.
Dr Ayoub Kazim, managing director of the education cluster of TECOM Investments, has argued that the UAE's free zones should innovate and create "an augmented layer of value-added services" in order to boost their reputation both locally and regionally.
Speaking at the Second Abu Dhabi Innovation Forum, presented by Abu Dhabi University and the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development, Dr Kazim also spoke of the strategies being employed by Dubai Knowledge Village (DKV) to position itself as a regional hub in the human resources management sector.
Among the other events, the forum presented a speech by Wayne Borg, chief operating officer at twofour54, who talked about driving innovation in the UAE's media sector.
DKV currently runs a number of projects including Business Leadership in the UAE, Best Employer, CEO Mobility and RFID Awareness & Demand.
