Wind turbines to be installed 100km outside of Nairobi following Toshiba deal

Kenya is to improve its energy supply from wind power after announcing it has ordered four sets of steam turbines and generators from Toshiba. When complete, the devices will be installed in the Olkaria I and IV plants that are situated around 100 kilometres to the north-west of the country's capital Nairobi. This could also be good news for people considering property investment in Kenya as people installing the turbines will require places to rent in the near future.According to Bloomberg, around 280 megawatts will be generated by the two Olkaria sites - the largest amount of any power generation complex in Kenya, Toshiba says.Plants are expected to be finished by April 2014, the news provider reports.Meanwhile, Kenya tourism minister Najib Balala is in London this week to help promote Kenya at the 33rd World Travel Market, taking place at the Excel exhibition centre in Canning Town.
