Nigeria customs department announces customs collection figure

Nigeria's customs department collected around N602 billion in the first ten months of the year, in news that could interest Abuja property investors.Controller-general of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Dikko Inde Abdullahi told other officials at a government meeting about the figure, adding that he is hoping to generate a further bonus of N100 billion into government coffers by the end of the year, thisdaylive.com reports. This could mean higher levels of trade are taking place in Abuja and the rest of the country, making it a hive of activity.Mr Abdullahi told the news provider that there are two factors that mean takings could be even higher over the next few years."First, the new Customs Staff College will start producing trained officers in modern customs management, while the existing service providers contract will expire, leaving Nigerians to manage our affairs," he explained.Elsewhere, a German film festival was held in the city earlier this month - featuring films from the 1930s.
