Etihad Airways to start flying to Tripoli

Tourism and trade links between Abu Dhabi and Libya have been given a new platform following the recent move of the emirate's national airline.Carrier Etihad Airlines has announced that it is to start flying to the Libyan capital Tripoli early next year.The flights are scheduled to commence on January 17th 2012 and will run three times each week.Those on the early flights will stop of in Alexandria in Egypt, but Etihad plans to offer a non-stop service in the near future, the Washington Post reported.Etihad chief executive officer James Hogan told the newspaper that the recent regime change in Libya in addition to post-war rebuilding will create strong demand for the flights in the coming months.It comes as a number of international carriers including Alitalia and Turkish Airlines resume flights to the Libyan capital. A host of other airlines have also announced additional flights in and out of Abu Dhabi in order to keep up with increasing customer demand.
