Dubai's exports driven by free zones

Property investors with a keen interest in business developments in Dubai could be among those interested in the publication of recent figures regarding the emirate's free zones.According to data released by Dubai Exports, businesses operating from free zones around the emirate now account for 40 per cent of Dubai's Dh127 billion export market.This, the organisation claims, highlights the growing importance of economic clusters.Saed Al Awadi, chief executive of Dubai Exports, said: "The start of this year has been very promising, particularly in terms of trade and exports for Dubai."Exports are continuously growing, with some products showing high potential to expand further."According to the firm's figures, businesses operating in free zones exported or re-exported Dh86 billion worth of goods in the first half of this year.In other news, Dubai Duty Free recently reported significant sales growth for the year so far.The firm recorded sales of Dh4.238 billion in the year to October and this figure is expected to rise to Dh5.3 billion by the end of 2011.
