Sales on the up for Dubai Duty Free

The strength of the retail sector in the UAE has been highlighted by a rise in sales for Dubai Duty Free.Data released by the business recently revealed that sales up to the end of September increased by 16.4 per cent when compared to the same period of 2010.So far the firm has seen sales amounting to Dh3.78 billion and is on course to see a 2011 total of Dh5.3 billion.Sales were largely driven by perfumes, which remained the top category, while gold sales jumped 24 per cent to reach Dh432 million for the nine-month period.Such strong results could see a number of investors vie the Middle East as an ideal location for new retail ventures.Colm McLoughlin, executive vice-chairman of Dubai Duty Free, said: "We have had a fantastic year so far and I am pleased that our penetration level and average spend has been consistently high."We are heading into a busy sales period for the last quarter and are optimistic that we will have a record year."
