Nigerian government aims to create 50,000 jobs

The Federal Government of Nigeria has pledged to create 50,000 new jobs in the country for the nation's young unemployed, as well as provide opportunities to 6,000 young entrepreneurs over the next three years.Speaking from Abuja, it launched the YOU WIN project, part of the Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria, a programme to empower and inspire entrepreneurialism among young people in order to provide long-term career opportunities and boost the country's economy."The programme will provide aspiring youths with a platform to showcase their business acumen, skills and aspirations to business leaders, investors and mentors in Nigeria," explained Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, minister for finance and coordinating minister of the economy.It will invite young people to submit their business plans and the Lagos Business School has been selected to offer training and mentorship. Successful business plans will then be offered between N1 million and N10 million to help to set up their firm.The project will be officially launched by president Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja at an event with over 2,000 young people.
