Kenyan festival expected to attract more tourists

Tourism to Kenya could increase next year as organisers of a cultural festival are hoping to attract more people from across the world to attend. The Rift Valley Festival takes place in September 2012 and will be the third year of the event, which showcases the local arts, crafts and culture of the region.According to Angie Sloan, director of the Kenya Tourist Board for UK and Ireland, organisers of the festival are keen to make it a must-see on the Kenyan events calendar. She added that a number of other events taking place in the country could attract greater numbers of tourists, including the Open Golf Championship and motorsport competition the Rhino Charge. There are also more traditional attractions that continue to draw visitors to Kenya like the wildebeest migration, which takes place between July and October."Visitors watch in awe as the river banks swell and burst with wildebeest as they storm down the river bank to reach the green grass on the other side, certainly a sight not to be missed," Ms Sloan remarked.Recent research from the Kenya Tourist Board found that Kenya is the most popular destination for safari holidays among tourists.
