Dubai's airports 'at the heart of globalisation'
Dubai's location and unrivalled air transport links will put it at the heart of globalisation's next phase. This is according to academic and futurologist Dr John D Kasarda, who said that continuing development of the logistics sector in Dubai is improving its connectivity to other countries across the world, in turn boosting the economy on an international scale.Indeed, with advancements in air transport, Dubai is now accessible to two-thirds of the world's population within an eight-hour flight and is within four hours for one-third of the globe. And more people are expected to visit Dubai for business and leisure when Al Maktoum International Airport expands to passenger services. It will have a capacity of 120 million people a year, in addition to the 50 million passengers who walked through Dubai International Airport last year.Figures from Oxford Economics estimate that Dubai's aviation sector has created 125,000 jobs, as well as $11.7 billion in gross domestic product, representing 14 per cent share of all of Dubai's GDP.
