Dubai public transport could have Wi-Fi installed

Public intercity buses in Dubai could be installed with Wi-Fi services in an effort to attract younger commuters.A survey by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) shows that the majority of commuters are aged between 26 and 45 and officials hope to launch a range of value added services in order to get younger residents seeking public transport.Currently people aged under 18-years-old represent just two per cent of the total number of passengers on Dubai's public transport, Emirates 24/7 reported. The RTA has succeeded in attracting more young people aged between 18 and 25 through the launch of a student pass. Last year, this age group represented 25 per cent of total passengers.Other plans to encourage passenger numbers on bus, water taxi and metro networks include creating a bus-only route to speed up journey times.Initial figures for 2011, seen by the news provider, shows that 175 million passengers have used Dubai's public transport.
