The Roads and Transport Authority has started work on a series of new internal road projects in Al Barsha 1, 2 and 3. The largely residential area next to Tecom has grown rapidly over the last few years, prompting the need for improved road networks. The project will be completed in four phases, stretching along Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Umm Suqeim Road and Street 331, with work set to finish by the first half of 2014. Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of the RTA explained that the total construction area covers an area of 1,300 hectares and consists of 116km of internal roads and lighting works. Construction of the new roads will extend 5 km with a further 50km including improvements to existing roads.
