Ras Al Khaimah's specialist hospital-cum-homecare centre for the elderly at Seif Obaidullah Hospital has seen significant growth in the number of it cases it has successfully handled this year.

Mohammed Rashed Al Shihi, director at the hospital, claimed there had been a 60 per cent increase in the number of patients visiting the centre for the elderly during the first eight months of 2010 compared to the same period in 2009, with an estimated 50-60 patients visiting every day.

Speaking to the Khaleej Times, he said: "These aged patients visit the hospital seeking treatment and other various medical services and our doctors have been able to cater to all their medical needs."

It was also noted that the expansion of the hospital's homecare centre for the elderly last year and the recruitment of more specialist staff have helped the hospital to cope with the increasing number of elderly patients.

The elderly centre has 126 beds with state-of-the-art medical facilities as well as lounges and recreation rooms, swimming pools, entertainment halls, and a restaurant and cafeteria.
