Abu Dhabi's department of municipal affairs (DMA) is pressing ahead with its largest ever training programme as it looks to prepare the construction industry for new building code regulations that come into force at the start of next year.

Beginning this month and running until mid-November in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the workshops are being led by more than eight experts from the International Code Council, WAM News Agency reported.

The sessions, which will cover the International Fire Code fundamentals and International Energy Conservation Code fundamentals among other regulations, are being offered to construction businesses and professionals at subsidised rates on behalf of the DMA.

"The new building codes warrant the largest training of its kind to take place in the UAE," commented Ahmed Shareef, under-secretary of the DMA and member of the Abu Dhabi Building Codes Higher Council.

"We are working hard with all stakeholders to identify their roles and responsibilities in adopting and implementing the new codes. The training workshops will bring world-class standards and practices to the emirate of Abu Dhabi, which will help us achieve a sustainable environment and the emirate’s 2030 vision at large," he added.
