Authorities in Ras Al Khaimah are currently developing a $231.4 million theme park in the emirate, it has been reported.
According to the National, the huge coastal water park, which is easily accessible from the main road to Ras Al Khaimah from Dubai, will open to visitors in September.
The park, named Ice Land Water Park, is part of a wider push by the emirate's government to drive modernisation and economic growth, the newspaper said.
In addition, it was revealed that the park will form part of larger development named WOW RAK which covers 48.5 hectares and will aim to attract thousands more tourists to the region.
The attraction will be a "penguin-themed water park" based on a story of a group of penguins losing their home in the Arctic because of global warming and drifting to Al Jazeera Al Hamra in Ras Al Khaimah.
Earlier this week, PKF The Consulting House observed that the various hotels currently under development in Ras Al Khaimah are vital if it is to achieve its target of over two million guest nights by 2012.
