Exports by members of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry reached AED 18,010 billion last month - a three per cent rise on the figure recorded in May.

In addition, new research show that the chamber's number of active exporters went up by 49 to 4,863 while the certificates of origin issued by the body to its members in June 2010 also rose by three per cent month-on-month to reach a total of 57,306 certificates.

The data also revealed that the total export figure for June 2010 was six per cent higher than June 2009 and was almost equal to the highest June export value registered in 2008.

Hamad Buamim, director-general of the chamber, noted that its members' current export figures are showing signs of continual growth, suggesting the emirate's economy has reverted to the basics of export and re-export as a major driving force behind the economic recovery.

Meanwhile, the Khaleej Times reported this week that IDBI Bank, an Indian, state-controlled lender, has confirmed plans to turn its Dubai office into a hub for foreign currency transactions.
