Dubai's Water Bus, which provides transportation to some of the emirate's giant offshore projects, carried half a million passengers last year.
According to figures compiled by Dubai's road and transport authority, the Water Bus ferried 532,062 passengers in 128,092 journeys in 2009.
Hussain Ali Al Saffar of the agency's marine department, said: "The Water Bus involves a shift in quality of marine agency projects and lays the foundation for a water-borne transportation plying Dubai Creek and water canals providing passengers with access to the giant projects forming the waterfront of Dubai city such as the Palm and the World Islands."
He added that the Water Bus has been integrated with other transport modes such as rail, taxi and buses in order to boost public transportation in the emirate and contribute to easing traffic congestion.
