Dubai's department of tourism and commerce marketing (DTCM) has been awarded the prize of best tourist board at the Travel Weekly Globe Awards in London.
It is the first time the DTCM has won the award, beating destinations like Australia, Barbados, Spain, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK.
Eyad Ali Abdul Rahman, DTCM executive director of media relations and business development, said that the award was a shot in the arm for the department which has been aggressively marketing and promoting Dubai in the overseas markets. This includes in the UK, which ranks top on the list of Dubai's tourist source markets.
Late last year, Dubai was voted the best destination for Middle East and Africa at the Irish Travel Trade News Awards.
In receiving the Travel Weekly award, Ian Scott, director of the DTCM's UK and Ireland office, said: "This is because of the hard work of everyone at DTCM and the significant changes that we have made in the last two years to the way in which we work with the travel trade."
