Dubai's new Metro system will have a "considerable impact" on the tourism industry, it has been asserted.
One expert said this week that although taxis in the emirate are not expensive, several journeys per day by this method can soon add up and therefore a more convenient public transport facility was required.
Ian Scott, director at the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing in the UK and Ireland, said the Metro system was the perfect solution to this issue and would make a big difference to the region.
"It will cut time ... and get people moving around the city a lot quicker and [more] efficiently," he said. "The Metro will encourage people to jump on and go to parts where previously they may not have done."
According to the public transport operator Serco Group, the new service will operate across ten stations on the Red Line. These include Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport, as well as the Financial Centre and Mall of the Emirates.
