England cricketer Andrew Flintoff is to spend his recovery time in Dubai helping out the national side, it has emerged.

The double Ashes winner and Lancashire all-rounder is recovering in the emirate having undergone surgery on his knee recently and according to the National will use the opportunity to work with the UAE team.

Flintoff's agent Andrew Chandler told the publication that the star was keen to get involved with the ongoing development of the sport in the region and saw this time as ideal to do this.

He explained the gym and facilities of Dubai Sports City would be used for his period of rehabilitation and in return the man known to his teammates as Freddie would do some coaching.

"There has been good growth in UAE cricket in the last few years and Andrew felt that he wanted to give something back, Mr Chandler said.

"His partnership with Sports City will also help raise the profile of his Dubai academy," he added.

The news follows an interview with the cricketer for his website this week where he noted that one of his remaining ambitions is to play in more "different worldwide locations".
