When it opens on September 9th, the Dubai Metro will be the world's largest fully automated rail transport system in the world.
The eagerly anticipated transport network delivers yet another milestone in the unprecedented development of Dubai, home to the world's tallest building, largest artificial islands and Dubailand, which will become the world's largest amusement park.
Developed by the Rail and Transport Authority, the Dubai Metro was approved in response to the rapid growth in visitor numbers, as well as the burgeoning rise in the number of people who own property in Dubai.
Visitor numbers peaked in 2008, when 7.5 million entered the emirate, cementing its reputation as one of the world's premier and most popular holiday destinations.
"The Metro will increase circulation and access to some of the top visitor destinations and places of interest that Dubai has to offer as well as offering residents an efficient and affordable means to commute through the city," Ian Scott, director of UK and Ireland for the Government of Dubai, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.
