The number of passengers passing through Dubai International grew six per cent year-on-year during January, new figures show.
In a statement, Dubai Airports announced that some 3.3 million passengers passed through the airport last month, up from 3.1 per cent in January 2008.
And looking at the year, Dubai Airports reported an overall growth increase of nine per cent over the course of 2008, with 37.44 million business and leisure travellers passing through its gates.
The eagerly awaited opening of Terminal 3 was said to have boosted visitor numbers substantially.
"By the end of the first quarter of this year, Dubai International expects five new international airlines to add to its list of airlines," the group added, indicating that the impressive growth rate is likely to continue.
The growing number and frequency of routes served by the airport may make the emirate an attractive choice for those looking for property in the UAE.
Dubai Airports has also recently launched a new executive flights centre to serve the requirements of business travellers.
