As Dubai Duty Free celebrated its 25th anniversary on December 20th, employees were confident that sales volumes in 2008 surpassed transactions seen in all previous years.
AMEInfo reports that during the year, the group doubled its retail operations following the opening of the new Emirates Terminal 3 building, while sales were estimated at Dhs3.950bn, amounting to a 23 per cent increase on the previous year.
"I congratulate the team at Dubai Duty Free for setting a new retailing benchmark and for firmly establishing its position as one of the top duty free operations in the world," said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Dubai Department of Civil Aviation Authority and chairman of Dubai Airports.
Meanwhile, Colm McLoughlin, managing director of Dubai Duty Free, praised staff after the group saw landmark sales volumes in the last month of 2008.
In addition to expansion at Dubai International Airport, the group is also growing its presence at Dubai World Central.
